About The Position

The Food Services Assistant is responsible for assisting in the operation of the Food Services Program. This role involves providing a hospitable atmosphere, guiding volunteers, processing food donations, maintaining inventory, preparing food, maintaining kitchen equipment, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment, assisting with menu planning, organizing storage areas, and delivering meals to various Union Station locations. The position also includes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• One year of experience working in food services or meal preparation in residential facility, cafeteria or commercial food establishment.
• California Department of Health Food Safety Card required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work as a member of a team and respond to direction.
• Ability to establish and effective working relationships with volunteers and staff.
• Knowledge of food storage, preparation and menu planning.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
• Ability to work effectively under time constraints, prioritize work, multi-task, and adapt to changing work demands.

Nice To Haves

• High School diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a hospitable and welcoming atmosphere for patrons, volunteers and donors to Union Station.
• Provide guidance to volunteers with breakfast preparation and service.
• Organize, courteously acknowledge, and safely process food donations according to Union Station policy.
• Assist Associate Director of Food Services in maintaining inventory of food and paper goods.
• Prepare food and cook as necessary.
• Help maintain all kitchen equipment.
• Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in the kitchen and food storage areas.
• Assist Associate Director of Food Services with menu planning.
• Maintain organization in pantry and food storage areas.
• Deliver meals to Union Station locations.
• Other duties as assigned.
