About The Position

The Food Services Aide helps prepare and serve appetizing, nourishing, well-balanced meals that meet residents’ daily nutritional needs and special dietary requirements. The role also supports dishwashing and cleaning operations. Food Services Aides handle and store food according to facility procedures and safe food-handling guidelines, prepare food using standardized recipes, and use supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste. They operate institutional food-preparation and cleaning equipment, follow cleaning and preventive-maintenance schedules, assist with tray-line or buffet setup, and assemble resident meals and trays according to facility procedures.

Requirements

• Basic understanding of nutrition and therapeutic diets.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Understanding of person-centered care.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Working knowledge of and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in an institutional food-service setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle and store food according to facility procedures and safe food-handling guidelines.
• Assist with food preparation as assigned by the supervisor.
• Prepare food items according to standardized recipes and safe food-handling practices.
• Use food supplies and equipment efficiently and economically to prevent waste.
• Operate institutional food-preparation and cleaning equipment, including the dish machine, according to manufacturer and supervisory direction.
• Follow cleaning and preventive-maintenance schedules.
• Assist with setup of the food tray line or buffet dining.
• Assemble meals and trays for residents according to facility procedures.
• Assist with dishwashing and cleaning tasks.
