About The Position

Performs food service tasks involving several steps or a sequence of tasks. Sets up food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold foods, including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread and butter, and beverages. Serves food cafeteria-style or family-style, prepares coffee and simple salads and sandwiches, portions food, and packs box lunches. Maintains and cleans dishwashing equipment and may unload food deliveries, move heavy garbage cans, operate a cash register, and manage a change fund. Performs other related duties as required. Employment requires Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer and successful completion of E-Verify. The position may involve weekend and holiday work and rotating shifts, including hours outside the normal duty schedule. A selectee may be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Salary depends on experience and/or education. The announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies within 60 days of issuance of the selection certificate.

Requirements

Ability to perform tasks involving several steps and use judgment when carrying out sequential tasks.
Ability to concentrate while serving uniform portions and avoid distractions when handling multiple requests.
Ability to perform simple arithmetic and read instructions.
Working knowledge of common sanitation procedures to prevent contamination.
Must use Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer for salary payments.
Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check and resolve any discrepancies as a condition of employment.
May be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, who are at least 18 years old must meet the applicable Selective Service registration requirement unless exempt.

Responsibilities

Set up food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold foods and beverages.
Serve food cafeteria-style and serve family-style by placing dishes on tables and refilling as needed.
Make coffee in large urns, determining the number of servings and handling timing and brewing.
Prepare fruit and vegetable salads, including fresh fruit, tossed green, tomato and lettuce, and lettuce wedge salads.
Serve uniform portions in prescribed quantities using small dishes or glasses.
Make simple sandwiches and pack box lunches.
Maintain water and detergent levels in the dishwasher; clean the dishwasher inside and out, remove calcium deposits as needed, and restore the area to orderliness.
May unload food from delivery trucks and move heavy garbage cans.
May operate a cash register and be responsible for a change fund.
Perform other related duties as required.
