About The Position

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) at the Las Vegas, Nevada VA Medical Center is hiring part-time Food Service Workers to provide service in its cafes and retail markets. The role involves preparing beverages and a variety of food items, following approved procedures and customer orders, and maintaining cleanliness and food safety. Employees may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
• Ability to read instructions and perform basic math for food preparation.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Requires constant standing and walking, and frequent bending.
• Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
• Must serve a one-year trial period, during which fitness for continued employment and whether continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
• Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Subject to a background/security investigation.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of experience in the food service industry is preferred but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Prepare beverages, including coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and smoothies.
• Prepare and assemble food items, including breakfast and lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, and burritos.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the workplace, equipment, and utensils in compliance with health and safety standards.
• Store food properly to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
• Prepare food according to customer orders or supervisors’ instructions and approved procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
