About The Position

This is a pool position with no guarantee of hours. The typical shift is 5:45 am-2:15 pm or 6 am-2:30 pm, with some weekend and holiday shifts required. Pool staff must have availability of 3 or more days per week. The role is responsible for taking orders from customers and expediting service and related food and beverage sales, or operating an efficient trayline meal service. Employees will be cross-trained in both areas. Food handling is performed in accordance with external, internal, and regulatory guidelines, with a focus on minimizing waste while maintaining quality. Responsibilities include accurate cash handling, following internal procedures, assembling orders, maintaining par stocks, ordering supplies, and rotating products. Excellent customer relation skills are expected due to extensive customer contact.

Requirements

  • One year of related work experience in the hospitality, retail or healthcare service fields, OR any combination of experience and education that would demonstrate the capability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Obtain and maintain a Valid Department of Health Food Handler’s permit issued by the State of Washington
  • Some knowledge of HACCP food handling standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to understand and apply business math as required by the duties of the position.
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • AA Degree in Nutrition or Healthcare.
  • Knowledge of modified diets or healthcare experience.
  • Knowledge of the use and application of POS system.
  • Knowledge of the operation of trayline services and other food-handling activities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare espresso orders for patients, staff, visitors, and catering using standard recipes and plating guidelines.
  • Assist customers with food and beverage orders by answering menu and recipe-related questions and utilizing suggestive selling techniques.
  • Operate patient trayline accurately and efficiently to meet designated timelines, and dish and garnish assigned food items according to the menu.
  • Prepare patient orders following patient menu guidelines and tray set-up according to tray guidelines.
  • Disassemble patient tray carts and wash/store small wares accurately per designated timelines.
  • Deliver patient meal orders in accordance with meal delivery guidelines.
  • Utilize all functions of the Point-of-Sale (POS) system to expedite all forms of payment for products or services.
  • Reconcile cash bank and daily receipts at the end of shift in accordance with established procedure(s) and report out-of-balance conditions to management.
  • Inventory supplies to maintain accurate production par levels in customer service, merchandising, and/or trayline service areas.
  • Complete production par lists, freezer pull lists, pre-meal checklists, requisitioning and waste sheets, and others of similar purpose.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with staff, vendors, and the public to provide excellent value to customers.
  • Use proper business conduct when dealing with suppliers and customers.
  • Tactfully coordinate needs and challenges with staff and supervisors.
  • Answer phone, deliver food, go to the store, and assist in other areas of the department as needed.
  • Attend all required safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Attend all required safety education programs and provide complete and accurate responses to safety questions.
  • Operate assigned equipment and perform all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.
  • Demonstrate proper body mechanics in all functions.
  • Follow the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.
  • Ensure a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
  • Attend annual education programs.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
