About The Position

Under the direction of the Food Services Director, the Food Service Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the food service department at our 129th Street Adult Care Facility. The manager will ensure high-quality food preparation, exceptional customer service, compliance with health regulations, and efficient business performance. The manager supervises kitchen and service staff, coordinates food and supply order, manages budgets, and maintains safety and sanitation standards.

Requirements

  • Experience with food forecasting, inventory, and ordering from vendors required
  • Skills in motivating, coaching and supervising food service staff
  • Training staff in job duties for each level of food service worker
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite (Outlook, TEAMS, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to read, speak and write English fluently; Bilingual English/Spanish preferred)
  • Leadership and team- building
  • Experience with conflict resolution and customer service
  • Proven time management and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • High school diploma or General equivalency diploma required
  • Minimum of 5 years of cooking experience in a commercial kitchen(s) serving 20+ persons or more.
  • Minimum of 3-year experience with supervision or managerial responsibility
  • Health and safety regulations (e.g., SERV safe/Food Handlers Certification) required
  • Knowledge of menu planning and nutritional guidelines
  • POS systems and restaurant or Cafeteria management software
  • Must be at least 18 years of ag

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all applicable state and city regulations regarding food storage, food preparation, and kitchen maintenance, equipment, food storage and dining room
  • Maintain 6 months of dated menus with any substitutions noted along with copies of all food invoices
  • Partner with the dietitian to plan nutritious and appetizing meals and prepare menus in advance according to applicable DOH regulations and individual special diets
  • Maintain an up-to-date file of kitchen tested recipes which correlate with planned menus
  • Attend monthly meetings with program administrator and residents to discuss food service program for any changes and/or updates
  • Supervise the ordering of all food and other kitchen supplies through approved vendors and suppliers
  • Consistently maintain sufficient inventory of food and utensils
  • Assure the three-day emergency meal plan food supply is maintained.
  • Monitor and adhere to the annual food budget set forth by WSFSSH.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of meals and arrange appetizing and complete presentation of standard meal portions.
  • Ensure all staff is following SERV Safe procedures and principles
  • Create kitchen staff schedules to ensure proper shift coverage for meal service and cleaning
  • Ensure staff is following proper protocols and safety practices
  • Responsible for kitchen staff time off requests and timesheet approvals in ADP
  • Maintains staff schedules, income and expenditure reports, food supplies and inventory levels and equipment maintenance logs
