About The Position

This position is for a Food Service Manager at a Juvenile Detention facility in Central Texas, part of Bell County Juvenile Services. The role involves fulfilling duties as directed by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, adhering to policies such as the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Texas Family Code, Texas Education Code, Bell County Employee Handbook, Bell County Juvenile Services, and Facility policies and procedures. Key aspects include supervision of residents assigned to the Facility, managing paperwork, and providing transportation as needed. The manager is expected to maintain professional appearance and behavior, address behavioral issues/concerns to ensure compliance, and assist staff during situations requiring the use of Handle with Care and the department approved behavior management program. The role requires working as a team with all personnel and keeping the Direct Supervisor advised of all critical situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in culinary work.
  • Dependable personal vehicle for day-to-day transportation.
  • Possess physical stamina to handle potential physical outbursts of violent youth and be able to restrain a child who is resisting.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Good moral character.
  • No staff member may possess, while on duty, any firearm, illegal weapons, or chemical agents.
  • Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Ability to arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties, and work the assigned schedule.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to their own health and safety and the health and safety of others.
  • Ability to use computer software and data systems effectively.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards.
  • Knowledge of institutional kitchen equipment and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill all duties related to his/her assignment as directed by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, including adherence to all policies in accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Texas Family Code, Texas Education Code, Bell County Employee Handbook, Bell County Juvenile Services, and Facility policies and procedures.
  • Supervise residents assigned to the Facility.
  • Handle paperwork.
  • Provide transportation as needed.
  • Keep the Direct Supervisor advised of all critical situations that may arise.
  • Work as a team with all personnel.
  • Maintain professional appearance and appropriate professional behavior.
  • Address behavioral issues/concerns to ensure compliance, including assisting staff during any situation that requires the use of Handle with Care and the department approved behavior management program.
  • Prepare daily meals for residents in accordance with the approved menu.
  • Prepare meals from scratch.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the facility kitchen.
  • Ensure all food is available for daily meals, ordering for kitchen and detention.
  • Process and formulate monthly/required kitchen reports, and daily meal counts.
  • Provide direct supervision to kitchen staff.
  • Meet and maintain training and certification requirement of Juvenile Supervision Officer.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, Deputy Director, Assistant Director, or Facility Administrator.
