Food Service Assistant (Part-Time)
About The Position
The purpose of this position is to effectively lead and perform a variety of food preparation, clean up, and service duties in the school cafeteria. This role involves coordinating and participating in food preparation and serving for breakfast and lunch, operating food preparation equipment, organizing serving areas, serving food to students, and operating point of sale systems. The position also includes storing food, maintaining inventory records, ensuring a clean and sanitary work environment, performing data input, and cross-training into other food service roles as needed. The role requires effective communication with team members, adherence to health and safety policies, and upholding professional and ethical standards.
Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds safely.
- Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Must meet all employment requirements including, but not limited to, criminal background checks and reference checks
Nice To Haves
- Ability to speak Spanish helpful, but not required.
- Prior work experience in a school cafeteria helpful, but not required.
- Strong teamwork mindfulness and skills preferred.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and participates in the preparation and serving of various food items for breakfast and lunch
- Checks and operates all food preparation equipment
- Organizes food serving counters and steam tables; serves food to students
- Operates point of sale during meal service, as assigned
- Places packaged food in coolers and/or freezers for storage
- Maintains inventory records of food and supplies
- Maintains clean and sanitary preparation area and equipment
- Utilizes various cleaning agents according to label instructions, and using in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions
- Performs necessary data input and maintenance and maintains records
- Crosstrain into other Food Service positions (ex: Dishwasher) for help, assistance, and coverage when needed
- Communicates effectively with team lead and team members
- Attends and actively participates in team meetings
- Follows all state and city health and safety policies and protocols
- Attends all required food safety and health training
- Follows all school policies and protocols
- Upholds professional and ethical standards in all interactions, maintaining confidentiality and respect in all matters, including student-related information and sensitive organizational topics.
- Models and encourages all behavior outlined by the Board-approved Professional Conduct Policy.
- Maintains confidentiality in all areas related to students.
