About The Position

In this essential role, you’ll help ensure patients receive safe, accurate, and high-quality meals while supporting a clean and efficient kitchen environment. Position Details Title: Food Service Assistant I Location: Wilmington Hospital Type: Part-Time (30 hours/week) Schedule & Hours Business Hours: 5:30 AM – 7:30 PM Primary Shifts: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM 3:45 PM – 7:30 PM Additional shifts may include: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM Weekend & Holiday Rotation Required Must be able to work a combination of all shifts

Requirements

Food service experience preferred
Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation practices
Ability to follow procedures and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Team-oriented mindset with a positive, service-driven attitude
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull throughout your shift
Comfortable working in kitchen and patient care environments
Ability to follow infection prevention and safety protocols

Responsibilities

Assemble patient meals accurately and efficiently according to menu and dietary guidelines
Support tray line operations, dish room, sanitation, and kitchen assignments
Ensure proper portioning, tray setup, and meal presentation
Follow therapeutic diet requirements and distinguish between regular and modified diets
Maintain food safety standards, including temperature control and cross-contamination prevention
Uphold sanitation and safety standards in compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations
Demonstrate a “patients come first” mindset in every interaction
