About The Position

BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we feed, shelter, teach, and support our neighbors to build a stronger community. In all aspects of our work, we strive for the highest ethical and performance standards and are guided by the belief that people are to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their present situation or past experiences. Across our 60+ locations, we provide programs in a variety of service areas, including workforce development, children, youth, families, seniors and homeless prevention. This initiative connects families to food resources such as SNAP, WIC, and emergency food programs. The program promotes food security by helping individuals overcome eligibility and access challenges.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in modern business communications including personal computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, Ipads, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile and copier equipment
  • Proficiency in English required
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Bengali, Spanish or French is preferred
  • Driver’s License preferred

Responsibilities

  • Be able to travel between multiple Food Pantry sites to assist with distribution.
  • Provide general outreach and promotion for program (outdoor and indoor)
  • Provide office support including clerical, filing, faxing, scanning, typing, photocopying and sorting mail
  • Answer telephones and offer other office support, when necessary
  • Report to, and meet with, supervisor on a weekly basis or as determined
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Support strategies for community outreach and recruitment
  • Become knowledgeable of every component and service offered by the CMCC Food Pantry
  • Provide assistance with all Food Pantry activities, such as lifting boxes, sorting food, assisting with inventory management, and crowd control
  • Complete data entry for all Food Pantry sites.
  • Complete and maintain inventory records while ensuring First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures were followed
  • Greet clients and schedule appointments for them to receive services
  • Respond to and follow up on inquiries regarding upcoming pantry services.
  • Create and distribute informational materials and flyers in targeted (and other) communities in the Bronx to promote services, events, and other special functions
  • Refer clients to an appropriate program for enrollment services
  • Perform data entry work
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.
