About The Position

The Food Labeling Specialist serves as a subject matter expert on United States food labeling requirements and reports to the Principal Food Labeling Specialist. The role partners with cross-functional teams to ensure product labels and packaging meet regulatory and company requirements while supporting business objectives and speed to market. The specialist independently manages labeling reviews, provides regulatory guidance, and supports product commercialization across a diverse portfolio. This hybrid, office-based position does not require regular visits to manufacturing facilities and requires four days in the office. The role supports product launches, renovations, and packaging changes; reviews and approves artwork and labeling materials; and provides practical, compliant guidance on label content, claims, and marketing language.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
At least 3 years of food industry experience in food labeling, regulatory affairs, or a related discipline.
Strong knowledge of FDA and/or USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service labeling regulations.
Experience reviewing food packaging, artwork, and product claims for regulatory compliance.
Understanding of food product development, manufacturing processes, food safety, allergens, and ingredient regulations.
Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams to drive compliant business outcomes.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound regulatory judgment.

Responsibilities

Provide United States food labeling guidance to teams across Regulatory Affairs, Nutrition, Legal, Government Affairs, Marketing, and Product Development.
Review and approve product artwork, packaging, and labeling materials for compliance with FDA, USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, and company requirements.
Develop and maintain mandatory label content, including ingredient statements, allergen declarations, Nutrition Facts panels, claims, net weight statements, and product naming.
Evaluate labeling claims and marketing language, offering compliant and practical solutions that support brand objectives.
Research, interpret, and communicate current and emerging labeling regulations and industry trends.
Support new product launches, renovations, and packaging changes by providing labeling guidance throughout the development process.
Obtain USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service label approvals, temporary approvals, and extensions as needed.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve labeling processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
Respond to labeling and regulatory inquiries and help identify compliant solutions to complex issues.
Manage multiple projects independently while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
