About The Position

USA TODAY Co., Inc. is a diversified media company seeking a dynamic food and culture writer for The Enterprise of Brockton/enterprisenews.com. This role involves creating compelling stories and videos about the restaurant, dining, art, and influencer scene in the Brockton area, a city known for its vibrant African-American, Cape Verdean, and Haitian communities. The writer will capture the diverse culture of the city, identify buzzworthy topics, and produce content ranging from quick-turn food trends to profiles. Audience research and engagement across platforms will guide coverage to drive audience and subscriber growth. The beat will evolve with best practices shared among network colleagues. The reporter will also handle breaking news and general assignment reporting, actively reporting from the community despite the newsroom being virtual.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master’s in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 or more years of professional journalism experience or significant internship experience
  • High-level writing, communication and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well on deadline
  • Facility with AI and automation and experience in using it to enhance your journalism
  • Ability to produce content that is clean, accurate and publication ready
  • Understanding of reporting ethics and sourcing
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law

Responsibilities

  • Be passionate about news, developing a beat and becoming a local authority on food and culture
  • Capitalize on live, breaking and trending moments by creating quick-turn-around content
  • Use sites such as Google Trends to mine story ideas
  • Produce content in alternative forms such as video
  • Be flexible to assist in coverage of breaking news and other events.
