About The Position

The Food & Beverage Team Lead is responsible for overseeing guest-facing processes at Sharky’s Café and leading a team of 1 to 4 members. This role involves helping the Food and Beverage Management Team develop and monitor a motivated, positive, and productive team, assisting in evaluations and training, and implementing new policies and procedures. The Team Lead will handle guest and employee comments, concerns, and suggestions, maintain knowledge of aquarium activities and events, and ensure adherence to all Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Experience Standards, Policies, Procedures, and Safety Protocols. This position requires self-motivation, discipline, reliability, and a commitment to safety as a top priority. Collaboration with other team members and departments is essential for effective communication. The role also includes performing opening and closing duties, cross-training in other food and beverage areas, and maintaining Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance. Daily responsibilities include participating in food department functions like guest transactions, food preparation, and cleaning, maintaining inventory, and ensuring proper break schedules for team members.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have strong public speaking skills the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
• Must be able to think clearly, react quickly, and calmly to changes and/or stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is a plus.
• Prior point of sale experience is a plus.
• Previous lead or supervisory experience desired.
• Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
• Previous guest service, food industry or retail experience preferred.
• ServSafe Certification or Food Service Manager Certification desired.

Responsibilities

• Perform, adhere to, and implement all Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Experience Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure safe and efficient food and beverage operation.
• Maintain a positive attitude and appearance at all times.
• Oversee Sharky’s Café guest-facing processes, and lead 1 to 4 team members.
• Help Food and Beverage Management Team develop and monitor a highly motivated, positive, and productive team.
• Assist in evaluations and training of all Food and Beverage team members.
• Help implement new policies and procedures when needed.
• Maintain accurate record keeping involving team members, including Newport Aquarium awards and recognitions.
• Handle comments, concerns and suggestions from fellow employees and guests regarding the guest experience.
• Maintain knowledge of activities, aquatic life, and Newport Aquarium special events/promotions in order to properly notify and inform guests.
• Work independently, and be disciplined and reliable.
• Keep safety as a number one priority at all times while working at Newport Aquarium.
• Work with other team members/departments of Newport Aquarium to ensure effective communication is implemented at all times.
• Perform opening and closing duties as needed.
• Cross train in other food and beverage areas.
• Maintain Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance.
• Participate in the basic functions of the foods department including, guest transactions, preparing food, and cleaning the lobby/café.
• Maintain inventory and ensure items are in stock.
• Maintain proper break schedule for team members as prescribed in host handbook.
• Perform other related duties or tasks as assigned by the Merchandise Management Team.
