About The Position

The AMS Food Bank, located in the Rideau Building Room 105, provides confidential and non-judgmental food service to members of the Queen's community. As a non-profit organization, it operates mainly on donations and an opt-outable student fee, with all funds directed towards purchasing fresh produce and other essential items weekly. The Food Bank ensures Queen's students can remain healthy and productive, while also working to address and eliminate poverty within the Queen's community. It collaborates with other relevant organizations in the Queen's and Kingston community. Additionally, the Food Bank operates the PEACH Market, a food-forward initiative offering food on a sliding scale, allowing patrons to self-select prices to uphold dignity and autonomy while providing access to nutritious food at a low cost.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the Food Bank and PEACH Market regularly through volunteer shifts and perform all necessary tasks during a shift.
  • Tackle food insecurity on campus and be knowledgeable enough on the topic to empathetically discuss with customers using the service.
  • Assist in marketing and outreach activities with Assistant Managers.
  • Assist in Food Bank tasks such as: portioning food, collecting donations, and cleaning the center.
  • Assist in PEACH Market tasks such as: POS, talking to customers, serving hot food and drink.
  • Adhere to KFL&A Health and Safety guidelines in a food environment.
  • Attend all training sessions to become familiar with the department and adhere to the general operations of the department.
  • Complete tasks efficiently and attentively.
  • Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings.
  • Respect and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Foster a warm, comfortable, and respectful atmosphere for customers and coworkers.
  • Maintain timely communication with your direct Supervisor.
  • Serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement.
  • Complete other job duties as assigned.
