About The Position

This is a temporary employee position in the Dietary department, focusing on food and nutrition services. The role involves various tasks related to food preparation, sanitation, and customer service within a kitchen and cafeteria setting. The associate will be responsible for ensuring food safety standards are met, preparing menu items, and supporting the overall operations of the department.

Requirements

  • General understanding of food sanitation standards and techniques.
  • Knowledge in use and maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to respond to changes in pace productively and efficiently.
  • Ability to focus on all areas of each task.
  • Ability to independently complete basic checks required to maintain sanitation and productivity guidelines.

  • Ability to push and maneuver carts weighing up to 350 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of up to 3 hours continuously.
  • Ability to ambulate with hot items in a safe manner.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for up to 3 hours continuously.
  • Ability to tolerate extremes of noise, temperature, and humidity.
  • Ability to work with others in congested areas.
  • Reaching, handling food, touching food, talking, hearing, and seeing is a significant part of the job.
  • Ability to meet set timelines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to operate equipment needed to complete tasks, (including but not limited to) commercial dish washer, meat slicer, commercial mixer and other appliances.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of therapeutic food production and institutional food production utilizing recipes.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and breakdown of dish room, ensuring dishes are clean, sanitized, air-dried, and put away before each meal service.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the dish room, including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and grease trap maintenance.
  • Setup and breakdown of the cafeteria.
  • Prepare and serve all menu items.
  • Maintain professional customer service in the cafeteria.
  • Keep the cafeteria and dining room clean and stocked at all times.
  • Prep for all future recipes.
  • Follow recipes and prepare quality, nutritious food as delegated by the Chef and under supervision, including food for therapeutic diets.
  • Understand therapeutic diets and help patients make meal selections within all therapeutic diet orders.
  • Prepare nourishments and patient trays as needed.
  • Deliver patient trays while following hospital sanitation protocols.
  • Support kitchen and café staff by assisting with other tasks as needed.
  • Follow health and safety standards at all times to assure cross-contamination never occurs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
