The Food and Nutrition Assistant is responsible for completing all duties listed on the job routine, which may include working in the Patient, Retail, and Catering areas of the department. Performing sanitation duties is a responsibility of all Food Service Team Members. This role involves determining if perishable items need to be excluded from service due to spoilage, cleaning and stocking assigned areas, preparing, expediting, delivering, and retrieving patient trays, preparing and delivering nourishments and floor stock, and assisting with patient food orders. Additionally, the role includes serving cafeteria customers, handling P.O.S. transactions, preparing specialty beverages, following standardized recipes and food safety processes, working in the dish room/pot and pan areas, and assisting with catering orders, including set-up and clean-up. Maintaining the overall cleanliness of the department, which may involve cleaning heavy-duty equipment, floors, and ovens, is also a key responsibility. The assistant must follow task flows and notify leads of any deviations. Safety and sanitation practices are paramount, including using chemicals according to guidelines, practicing hand hygiene, using correct body mechanics, and adhering to proper food handling guidelines. The role also requires observing hospital and department guidelines, attending meetings, completing required training, managing time effectively, and participating in the department's PI program to achieve positive outcomes and customer satisfaction.
