Fluids Analyst II, Combustion Devices

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA
•$104,000 - $156,000

About The Position

At Relativity Space, the Propulsion team develops and delivers performant, manufacturable engines for the Terran R vehicle. The team owns hardware across its lifecycle, from initial design through production, qualification, and flight, and is exploring future engine modifications, including thrust upgrades, new cycles, and designs for mass production. The Fluids Analyst II will contribute to the design and qualification of combustion-device hardware—including injectors, thrust chambers, heat exchangers, and igniters—through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. The role reviews test and flight data to evaluate and anchor models, works with hardware designers to influence design decisions using thermofluid expertise, and develops and recommends analysis approaches that may reduce design iteration time. Accountability, collaboration, and execution are important to the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering field.
  • At least 2 years of experience performing CFD analyses; employment, internships, and project experience count.
  • Familiarity with typical analysis steps, including pre- and post-processing, meshing, and boundary conditions.
  • Experience with basic engineering scripting in Python, MATLAB, or a similar language.
  • Strong background in fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
  • Commitment to accountability, collaboration, and execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in a science or engineering field.
  • Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+.
  • Working knowledge of rocket engine subsystems, such as combustion devices.
  • Prior aerospace experience is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CFD analyses to support the design and qualification of combustion-device hardware, including injectors, thrust chambers, heat exchangers, and igniters.
  • Review test and flight data as necessary to evaluate and anchor models.
  • Interface with hardware designers and use thermofluid expertise to influence design decisions.
  • Develop and recommend analysis approaches that may decrease design iteration time.
