The Combustion Devices Engineer performs engineering analysis of liquid propulsion components related to combustion devices and turbomachinery. The role uses analysis and test or flight data to characterize component environments and assess whether components meet design requirements and goals. It applies analyses to pre- and post-test performance predictions and to assessments of ground test and flight data. The engineer also evaluates design, development, manufacturing, and testing activities; considers new design concepts, improvements, and fabrication methods; and documents and presents technical assessments to engineers and technical, project, and program management. The position involves working with other engineers to resolve technical issues, participating in technical interchanges, planning activities, design reviews, and review boards, and tracking requirements, risks, issues, action items, and their resolutions. Other liquid rocket engine analysis and systems engineering duties may be assigned. This is an office-environment role with domestic U.S. travel (5%). The normal workday is 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with minimal overtime potentially required to meet schedule milestones and technical demands. The work requires extended computer use and sitting, as well as occasional movement between floors and buildings at NASA and company facilities. U.S. citizenship and a STAR ID are required; proof of citizenship is required.
