About The Position

The Floral Sales associate provides a pleasant and efficient floral experience by actively engaging guests and delivering professional service and hospitality. The role supports store sales and guest service, cares for ornamental plants, creates and maintains floral displays, and operates department equipment safely. Associates are expected to uphold company values, contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, participate in team success, and complete duties assigned for the successful operation of the business. The position has no formal supervisory responsibilities, though associates may mentor new or department-new colleagues and contribute to leadership on the job. The position requires regular attendance and the ability to communicate clearly and safely perform assigned tasks. Work involves prolonged standing and a range of physical activities, lifting and moving items of varying weights, and exposure to mechanical parts and certain environmental conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid state Food Handlers Permit.
Valid driver’s license or state ID card.
Meet the state minimum requirement to work with a baler and trash compactor.
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and communicate effectively and pleasantly with guests, vendors, and fellow associates.
Perform mathematical calculations using American money and units of weight and volume measurement.
Use common-sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions and resolve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Able to perform the position’s essential physical functions, including prolonged standing and lifting/moving up to 10 pounds continuously, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Report for assigned shifts on time and regularly, prepared to provide excellent service and safely perform assigned duties.
Promote sales through guest conversations, product recommendations, information about promotions and services, and assistance with product locations and special requests.
Greet guests and explain Floral Department features, product information, and services.
Cultivate and care for ornamental plants; build and install indoor and outdoor floral displays; fertilize, water, weed, transplant, and thin plants; and maintain hand tools and other equipment.
Fill helium balloons and wrap items, and use “This One’s On Us” cards to support guest service.
Operate required equipment safely and correctly, including a com-line, telephone, baler, trash compactor, box cutter, helium dispenser, pallet jack, scissors, stem cutter, and watering canister.
Mentor new associates and associates new to the department or task, helping provide a positive learning environment.
Participate in the Floral Department accident-reduction plan by monitoring displays for trip hazards or instability, observing safe lifting practices, and recognizing machinery safety features and store emergency policies.
Follow company safety standards, use protective equipment when required, and report accidents within 24 hours.
Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, represent the company positively, and participate in shared team success.
