About The Position

The Floral Sales associate provides a pleasant and efficient floral experience by actively engaging guests and delivering welcoming, professional service. Associates support sales and company growth, embody Yoke’s values and mission, represent the company positively, and contribute to shared success as owners of Yoke’s.

The role includes assisting guests with floral products and services, caring for ornamental plants, creating and installing floral displays, and using department tools and equipment safely. Associates may mentor coworkers and participate in accident-prevention efforts. The position has no formal supervisory responsibilities. Work involves prolonged standing and a range of physical tasks, including lifting, and may expose associates to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, airborne particles, and temperature extremes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with guests, vendors, and fellow associates.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations using American money and units of weight and volume.
• Ability to apply common sense to written or oral instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Meet state minimum requirements for working with equipment such as a baler and trash compactor.
• Valid State Food Handlers Permit.
• Valid driver’s license or State I.D. card.
• Ability to perform the physical duties described, including prolonged standing; walking; reaching, climbing, balancing, and bending; and lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Required vision abilities include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.

• Floral background is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Report for assigned shifts on time and regularly, communicate clearly, and perform assigned tasks safely while providing excellent service.
• Promote sales through discussions with guests, product recommendations, and information about promotions, services, special requests, large orders, and store products.
• Greet guests and explain Floral Department features, product information, and services.
• Cultivate and care for ornamental plants; build and install indoor and outdoor floral displays; fertilize, water, weed, transplant, and thin plants; and maintain hand tools and equipment.
• Fill helium balloons, wrap items, and use “This One’s On Us” cards to delight guests.
• Operate department and store equipment correctly and safely, including a com-line, telephone, baler, trash compactor, box cutter, helium dispenser, pallet jack, scissors, stem cutter, and watering canister.
• Mentor new associates and coworkers who are new to the department or task, supporting a positive learning environment.
• Participate in accident-reduction efforts by monitoring displays for trip hazards or instability, observing safe lifting, and understanding machinery safety features and emergency and robbery procedures.
• Follow company safety standards, use required protective equipment, and report accidents within 24 hours.
