The Flooring Quality Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring all flooring installations meet company standards, manufacturer specifications, and customer expectations. This role oversees the quality of materials, installation practices, site conditions, and final results. The QC Specialist works closely with installers, project managers, and customers to identify issues early, prevent defects, and maintain a high standard of workmanship.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with inspection tools (moisture meters, straightedges, levels, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
  • High school diploma. GED, or equivalent.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and work on active construction sites.
  • Comfortable performing detailed inspections in various environments.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance & Inspection Conduct pre‑installation site inspections to verify measurements, substrate conditions, moisture levels, and readiness.
  • Inspect flooring materials upon delivery for defects, damage, or incorrect specifications.
  • Perform in‑progress and post‑installation inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., NWFA, CFI, manufacturer guidelines).
  • Document findings with photos, notes, and standardized QC checklists.
  • Verify that installation methods match the required flooring type (carpet, hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile, etc.).
  • Technical & Compliance Test moisture levels using approved tools (moisture meters, hygrometers, calcium chloride tests).
  • Confirm proper acclimation of materials before installation.
  • Ensure installers follow safety protocols and manufacturer installation instructions.
  • Identify potential warranty issues and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Problem Resolution Diagnose installation defects such as lippage, hollow spots, delamination, gapping, uneven subfloors, or pattern misalignment.
  • Recommend corrective actions and coordinate repairs with installation teams.
  • Communicate findings to project managers and customers in a clear, professional manner.
  • Documentation & Reporting Maintain detailed QC reports for each project.
  • Track recurring issues and provide feedback to improve installation processes.
  • Assist in developing and updating quality standards and training materials.
  • Team Collaboration Work with installers to reinforce best practices and provide on‑site coaching when needed.
  • Support training sessions for new installers or subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and purchasing teams to ensure material accuracy.
