About The Position

The Floorhand is an entry-level member of the drilling rig crew and is responsible for supporting drilling operations through the safe handling of drilling equipment, maintaining rig cleanliness, and assisting with the operation, maintenance, and repair of rig equipment. Working under the direction of the Driller the Floorhand performs a variety of physically demanding tasks on the rig floor and throughout the lease. The Floorhand plays a critical role in maintaining safe and efficient drilling operations by assisting with tripping pipe, making and breaking connections, handling casing, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring high housekeeping standards on the rig and surrounding worksite.

  • Completion of client-specific orientation and site-access training requirements.
  • Ability to work rotating shift schedules in a 24-hour drilling operation working 12 or 8 hr shifts depending on location of the rig.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in remote locations and camp environments.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work requiring strength, endurance, coordination, and agility.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy equipment and materials within safe work practices.
  • Must be medically fit to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Must successfully meet company fitness-for-work and drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic mechanical aptitude is a asset but not required.
  • Previous labour experience is preferred.
  • Previous oil and gas drilling experience is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Experience working in physically demanding outdoor environments is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Making and breaking pipe connections on the rig floor safely and efficiently
  • Tripping pipe, assisting with casing operations, handling tools and equipment
  • Maintaining a clean and organized worksite
  • Performing general housekeeping duties around the rig.
  • Perform tasks safely and efficiently with a proactive approach to the next phase of work.
  • Possess the physical strength, coordination, agility, and endurance necessary to safely perform manual labour in a fast-paced drilling environment.
  • Enjoy working as a member of a team and mentoring fellow crew members new to the rig
  • Committed to working remote operations involving camps, when required
  • Follow all company procedures and policies
