About The Position

Hy-Vee is seeking a licensed pharmacist to provide patient care across multiple pharmacy locations. The Floating Registered Pharmacist fills and verifies prescriptions, counsels patients, supports pharmacy teams, builds relationships with patients and healthcare providers, and assumes responsibility for the department when the Pharmacy Manager is absent. The role supports Hy-Vee’s customer service, health, and wellness goals and requires maintaining an active pharmacy license through continuing education. The position operates in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment across multiple locations. Work includes filling prescriptions, answering telephones, assisting customers, and handling multiple tasks during a shift. There may be occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals or solvents during compounding, including chemotherapy drugs. The pharmacy handles and prepares hazardous drugs; personnel of reproductive capability are advised that exposure may cause acute and chronic effects. Training is provided, and following pharmacy policies and procedures is essential to minimizing risk. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

College degree and pharmacy licensure required.
Maintain continuing education to keep the pharmacy license active.
Six months to one year of similar or related work experience required.
Ability to administer immunizations required.
Apply logical and scientific thinking to solve problems involving abstract and concrete variables.
Perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations accurately.
Compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and evaluate technical data.
Counsel and advise patients and interact professionally with healthcare providers, team members, and store leadership.
Maintain discretion and integrity when handling confidential patient and financial information.
Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift, including extended periods at a pharmacy counter or workstation.
Ability to verify, dispense, and counsel patients on prescriptions and administer immunizations in accordance with pharmacy regulations.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Medication Therapy Management (MTM) experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
Fill and verify prescriptions and counsel patients in accordance with OBRA '90 and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Assist with controlled-substance inventory annually or as recommended.
Assist with inventory control by ordering and stocking merchandise, checking invoices, and entering inventory information.
Assist with reconciliation and balancing of third-party accounts and monthly inventory.
Assist the HBC Manager with ordering and merchandising over-the-counter products.
Coach, counsel, and train pharmacy employees and participate in additional education and training.
Visit schools, doctors' offices, and senior centers to market pharmacy services.
Build growth and sales through counseling and wellness programs.
Follow security and regulatory procedures, including Quality Assurance Programs.
Assume responsibility for the department in the Pharmacy Manager's absence.
Partner with other departments and staff to promote wellness and pharmacy services.
Communicate with the Pharmacy Manager about procedural changes, issues, and corporate communications.
Administer immunizations when certified.
Protect the confidentiality of customers' private medical information and prescription drug pricing in accordance with HIPAA.
Adhere to Hy-Vee policies, store guidelines, and laws and regulations pertaining to registered pharmacists.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
