Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in New York State
  • Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent education
  • Veterinary clinical experience with strong general technician skills
  • Experience with restraint, phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, and general patient care
  • Ability to safely induce and monitor anesthesia
  • Proficiency with venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Strong understanding of veterinary medications, including uses and potential side effects
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively across multiple departments
  • Computer proficiency and strong typing skills
  • Practice management or veterinary medical record experience preferred
  • Emergency, surgery, or specialty experience is a plus
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to changing department needs

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on patient care and technical support across specialty services and Emergency
  • Perform a wide range of veterinary technician skills, including restraint, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory procedures, and diagnostic testing
  • Induce and monitor anesthesia and assist with surgical procedures as needed
  • Perform routine diagnostics, including radiographs
  • Assist with operating room setup, preparation, and aseptic techniques
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and provide care when additional department coverage is needed
  • Assist the Emergency department when additional coverage is required
  • Obtain concise patient histories, including chief complaints and medication information
  • Administer and dispense medications and communicate discharge instructions to clients
  • Review medical records and referral information to ensure appropriate patient documentation
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and client service teams to support patient care and department efficiency
  • Adapt to the needs of different specialty departments and help create a smooth daily workflow
  • Communicate treatment plans and patient information clearly and effectively
  • Follow UVS protocols, OSHA guidelines, and established patient-care procedures
  • Proactively contribute ideas and participate in projects that improve hospital workflow and patient care
