About The Position

Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) is a leading provider of reproductive health care, known for its wide array of services, comprehensive sexual health education, and strong commitment to social justice. The Float Clinic Assistant (FCA) supports clinical and administrative functions across multiple PPSNE health centers within an assigned region, ensuring high-quality patient care and operational excellence. This role involves direct patient care, administrative support, patient education, laboratory support, and procedural assistance, all in alignment with PPSNE's mission and values. Travel within the assigned region is a core requirement, necessitating reliable transportation and willingness to work at any PPSNE health center as needed. Assignments can vary based on organizational needs such as staffing, patient volume, vacancies, leaves, and training. The FCA will float to health centers for in-clinic patient care, cover telehealth sessions, manage EHR Inbaskets, provide follow-up support, and assist the Care Coordination Team. The specific balance of these duties will depend on organizational needs. This position is based in Providence, RI, with responsibilities extending to New London, Norwich, and Willimantic, CT.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and register patients.
  • Collect insurance, fee, and demographic information.
  • Take vital signs, obtain patient history, perform triage, and document information in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Provide patient education regarding: Birth control options, STI testing and treatment, HIV/AIDS prevention, Pregnancy options, Healthy relationships.
  • Perform pregnancy tests and urinalysis.
  • Prepare and package specimens for laboratory transport.
  • Assist clinicians during examinations and procedures.
  • Support abortion services through patient education, procedure assistance, and recovery room support.
  • Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Schedule appointments and answer patient calls.
  • Manage patient records and documentation.
  • Handle cash receipts and daily deposits.
  • Support revenue cycle and productivity goals.
  • Manage inventory and ordering of medical and educational supplies.
  • Travel regularly to assigned health centers.
  • Adapt to different teams, workflows, and patient volumes.
  • Cover staffing shortages, leaves, vacancies, and special projects.
  • Provide telehealth and care coordination support when needed.
