About The Position

The Floater is responsible for helping and supporting the entire program based on programmatic needs. This will include a variety of tasks including classroom supports, office supports and kitchen duties as needed. In the classroom the floater is responsible for the creation of a responsive, age-appropriate experience that fosters the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of the children. In the kitchen the floater is responsible for helping in the preparation of nutritious, flavorful, and appealing meals and snacks while maintaining sanitary conditions. In the office the floater is responsible for assisting the office staff with basic data entry, filing and copying as needed while maintaining HIPPA requirements.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Will support families that predominantly speak Spanish or Bengali and others, may be required depending on client needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
  • Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task
  • New York City Department of Health Food Protection Course Certificate.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling including food safety, food allergies, and culinary techniques.
  • Proficient with basic tools, measurements and kitchen equipment.
  • Experience in child food service preparation and management and knowledge of Child and Adult Food Program (CACFP) requirements.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required.
  • Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.
  • Safe and successful performance, including meeting productivity standards.
  • Maintain an understanding of the principles, methods and processes needed to perform the job.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and professional development training.
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete work in an acceptable manner by the time and/or date established with accuracy, neatness and thoroughness and minimal number of errors.
  • Record keeping which includes the following: anecdotal records, health observations forms, screening and assessment forms, attendance records, accident/incident reports, parent/staff forms in accordance with federal, state, and local licensing requirements.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures including maintaining strict confidentiality and adherence to guidelines at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of the Head Start Performance Standards and the component plans; and thorough knowledge and application of Developmentally Appropriate Practices
  • Assist in facilitating activities of the children, including: daily activities, field trips, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom
  • Collaborate with other staff and classroom team members to maintain the function of classroom, focused on meeting the needs of children both collect and individual
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment.
  • Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
  • Assist in conducting daily health checklist and monthly environment checklist.
  • Assist in assuring that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially is maintained.
  • Assists with preparation of food in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines including but not limited to the Child and Adult Food Program, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene regulations.
  • Assists with planning meals from menus and recipes with substitutions for children/staff with allergies and/or food restrictions when necessary to serve food of nutritional value.
  • Assist in maintaining sanitizing standards, safety food preparation, and proper storage requirements,
  • Assist in prep work, cooking, inventory, meal patterns and production records.
  • Act as a liaison in the absence of the cook
  • Assist in organizing and managing student files as requested by office staff.
  • Assist in organizing regulatory information.
