The Assistant Teacher is responsible for helping and supporting the teacher in the creation of a responsive, age-appropriate experience that fosters the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of the children. This role requires a strong understanding of Head Start Program Performance Standards, local, state, and federal guidelines, and Developmentally Appropriate Practices. The Assistant Teacher will assist in facilitating daily activities, including field trips, and in selecting and arranging classroom materials in alignment with best practices from organizations like NAEYC, NYS Quality Stars, NYS Common Core, NYS Early Learning Framework, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework. A key responsibility is assisting in maintaining comprehensive child portfolio assessments, including observations and developmental/social-emotional assessments, as well as ensuring a safe and healthy classroom environment with properly maintained equipment and supplies. The position also involves integrating children's Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) into lesson plans. The Assistant Teacher will also assist in the overall management and evaluation of the classroom in accordance with all applicable regulations and agency policies.
