About The Position

This Float RN position is 0.2 FTE, requiring 8 hours per week, and is an on-site role with travel required to various PPMM locations. The nurse will be responsible for overseeing non-licensed staff competency in back office/lab skills, providing input for performance reviews, managing patient triage for medical problems, and contributing to health center productivity goals. Specific duties include preparing the recovery room, assessing post-operative patients, administering intraoperative sedation and post-operative medications, and maintaining emergency equipment. The role also involves providing patient education, counseling, lab work, and ultrasounds for medication abortions, as well as administering immunizations. Additionally, the Float RN will handle centralized follow-up for lab reports, evaluate and develop plans for follow-up, and refer complex cases to health center clinicians. As a Triage RN in the Response Center, they will provide advice and triage services for reproductive health and primary care patients, identify medical urgency, schedule appointments, and manage calls and patient portal messages according to policy.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program
  • Current CA State RN license
  • Current BLS Certificate
  • Current ACLS Certificate
  • Current experience using computer and mouse
  • Experience using a Microsoft Windows based program and willing to learn new computer skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and locations
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the assigned region on a weekly basis
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Responsibilities

  • Travels to PPMM locations as required
  • Assures non-licensed staff are qualified in performing back office/lab skills and achieve core competency levels on an annual basis
  • Provides input for the medical component of the non-licensed staff performance reviews
  • Oversees patient triage for medical problems and acute versus routine appointments for both reproductive health and primary care patients
  • Works with Center Manager or designee to facilitate flow and triage
  • Contributes to achieving health center productivity goals
  • Demonstrates PPMM customer service standards
  • Prepares recovery room for all in clinic abortion services
  • Prepares pre-operative medication
  • Assesses post-operative patients for pain and bleeding control and early detection of complications
  • Oversees HSS functions: vital signs, post-operative instructions, education of patient identified birth control method
  • Provides intraoperative sedation medication and patient monitoring
  • Provides post-operative medications
  • Maintains and ensures emergency cart and equipment are stocked and current
  • Follows standardized procedures for hormonal contraception, Emergency Contraception (EC), and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening
  • Provides patient education, counseling, lab work and ultrasound for medication abortions
  • Provides immunizations per approved guidelines and standardized procedures, such as HPV vaccination
  • Accepts and signs-off GC/CT, pap and other designated lab reports from clinician’s PAQs
  • Evaluates and develops plan for follow up
  • Refers paps/other labs that are outside the scope of CFU RN to the health centers’ clinicians
  • Verifies that all lab reports are handled appropriately and within the appropriate time frame
  • Provides advice/triage services to both reproductive health and primary care patients
  • Identifies medical urgency and schedules appointments with the health centers
  • Answers all calls placed in queue by Response Center as outlined in the Triage Policy
  • Responds to patient emails through the Patient Portal in EHR
