Flight Test Engineer - Mission Autonomy

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA

About The Position

Anduril's Test and Evaluation team develops testing approaches to ensure its products meet standards for performance and reliability, with particular focus on mission autonomy systems. The Flight Test Engineer will contribute to the iterative development and refinement of autonomous systems, including Fury, Anduril's Group 5 UAS. The role focuses on testing autonomous systems so users can carry out complex missions with precision and efficiency. The engineer advances testing methodologies, plans and executes tests and simulations, analyzes system data, and collaborates with software, hardware, product, program, and other cross-functional teams. The role also involves coordinating with private and government test ranges to test and evaluate systems and software. Flexible hours and travel to testing locations may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, robotics, or a related technical field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience in autonomous systems testing.
  • Experience in flight testing, with an emphasis on autonomous or remotely piloted systems.
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans for complex systems within aggressive timelines.
  • Familiarity with mission autonomy principles, unmanned systems, and integrating multiple assets into cohesive operational frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills, including interpreting test data, diagnosing system behaviors, and recommending actionable improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project milestones and deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions to diverse audiences.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to testing locations as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret-Level security clearance.
  • Subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening as required by the Company.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience developing, testing, and deploying mission autonomy systems in a defense or aerospace context.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation environments and tools used to test autonomous systems.
  • Familiarity with software development practices and programming languages used in autonomy and robotics, such as Python, C++, and ROS.
  • Knowledge of current industry and military standards for unmanned aerial systems and their operation within national airspace.

Responsibilities

  • Advance testing methodologies for mission autonomy systems to ensure reliable performance in complex operational scenarios.
  • Design and implement test plans that challenge and verify autonomous systems across simulated mission profiles.
  • Analyze test data to validate performance, identify improvement areas, and iteratively refine autonomy algorithms and behaviors.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, product managers, and other teams to define test requirements and align testing with system capabilities and mission objectives.
  • Manage end-to-end testing by shaping program requirements, designing test plans, leading test execution, analyzing data, and delivering reports to cross-functional and program teams.
  • Execute and analyze simulations that replicate real-world scenarios, accelerate testing, optimize system performance, and inform stakeholders about development and deployment implications.
  • Coordinate with private and government test ranges to test and evaluate systems and software.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
