About The Position

The Propulsion Analysis team develops and maintains analytical methods used to predict, evaluate, and optimize aircraft propulsion system. The group's activities include engine performance modeling, cycle analysis, transient engine behavior, engine starting characteristics, inlet distortion and recovery, nozzle performance, thrust reverser performance, and compliance with regulatory requirements associated with aircraft propulsion systems. A key focus area is the development of advanced cycle analysis and off-design simulation capabilities used to evaluate propulsion system behavior across a wide range of operating conditions. The team develops analytical tools, improves modeling methodologies, and performs trade studies supporting both existing aircraft programs and future technology development initiatives. The organization collaborates closely with Aircraft Performance, Powerplant Integration, Flight Sciences, Aerodynamics, and Systems Engineering teams to ensure successful integration of propulsion technologies into Gulfstream aircraft. The selected student will gain hands-on experience in engine cycle analysis, propulsion system modeling, aircraft performance evaluation, advanced simulation techniques, and data-driven engineering decision making while contributing to active engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application and actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Completion of sophomore year is required prior to the internship start date.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (without rounding); must be listed on resume.
  • Minimum duration: 12 weeks (summer); 14–16 weeks (spring and fall).
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Modeling and simulation of engineering systems.
  • Programming and automation (MATLAB, Python).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with numerical methods and engineering analysis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical findings.

  • Strong interest in aircraft propulsion systems and gas turbine engines.
  • Familiarity with performance modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Exposure to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and/or Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary simulation approaches, including Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), is desirable.
  • Experience with coding, scripting, or process automation is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of engine cycle simulation models.

  • Support studies involving fuel consumption, thrust performance, operability, and mission analysis.
  • Assist with validation of analytical models using test and flight data when available.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary studies involving aerodynamic, thermal, and structural interactions.
  • Document methodologies, assumptions, and engineering results.
