About The Position

The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) Guidance, Navigation and Mission Analysis team supports NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) by designing, integrating, and evaluating systems. This engineer will support NASA Flight Mechanics and Mission Analysis teams at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), contributing to work connected to human exploration of the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The role focuses on developing and maintaining six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulation models, conducting flight mechanics and trajectory analyses, and assessing vehicle performance through simulation and statistical methods. Day-to-day work includes creating, editing, and debugging C software; running and interpreting simulations; troubleshooting anomalies; solving flight mechanics problems independently; collaborating with engineering leads and other disciplines as needed; producing and reviewing documentation; and preparing and presenting technical reports and briefings. The position is based onsite at MSFC in an office environment. It requires U.S. citizenship, strong written and verbal communication, professional interaction with coworkers, management, and customers, and the ability to work at a computer for extended periods. Domestic travel may be required. The normal workday is 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with minimal overtime potentially needed to meet milestones or technical demands.

Requirements

  • A degree from an ABET-accredited institution in Aerospace Engineering is required; a related field may be considered when combined with highly applicable experience.
  • Equivalent education and experience: a bachelor's degree with 5 to 10 years of experience; a master's degree in an applicable field is equivalent to approximately two years of experience.
  • Five to ten years of relevant professional experience.
  • Extensive experience in 6-DOF modeling and simulation of missile systems or launch vehicles.
  • Strong proficiency and experience in C programming.
  • Strong technical initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Clear, concise, accurate, and timely verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers.
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods.
