About The Position

The Flight Simulation Engineer provides engineering expertise, leadership, and technical support to maintain the performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of Embry-Riddle’s Flight Simulation and Training Device (FSTD), Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD), Immersive Training Device (ITD), and Extended Reality (XR) training and research fleet at the Daytona Beach Campus. The role supports high-fidelity simulation environments for pilot training, academic instruction, and research, with a strong emphasis on Level D Full Flight Simulators—particularly legacy Flight Safety International (FSI) systems equipped with hydraulic control loading and motion. The engineer oversees the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of flight simulation systems and associated network infrastructure. This includes resolving hardware, software, avionics, visual, motion, and networking issues; performing repairs and modifications; implementing software updates; and ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements and university operational standards. The role also supports the Distributed Interactive Simulation network and simulator acquisition, relocation, and integration projects. The position provides mentoring, training, tasking, and technical guidance to full-time, part-time, and student technical staff. It assists with workforce development, recruitment, scheduling, performance support, and knowledge transfer. The engineer contributes to Embry-Riddle’s FAA-approved Simulator Quality Management System, supports revision control of simulator software and scenery databases, manages network infrastructure improvements, evaluates emerging simulation technologies, and develops tools and utilities to improve fleet performance, reliability, and operational effectiveness. The role works collaboratively with faculty, flight instructors, students, regulatory agencies, vendors, and university stakeholders, with a commitment to safety, innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. Embry-Riddle is an aviation and aerospace university with residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona, as well as Worldwide locations and online programs. The university describes its work as contributing to innovation across aviation, space, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, and next-generation engineering.
