About The Position

The Flight Follower position is an individual contributor role requiring experience and expertise in facilitating safe and efficient air travel. The Flight Follower will coordinate with the Pilot in Command (PIC) for the pre-flight planning, delay, and release of a flight. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless movement of our aircraft, upholding our commitment to safety and operational excellence. The Flight Follower will ensure all flights are conducted in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations, as well as Gridiron's manuals and policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Valid FAA Dispatch License.
  • Minimum 3 years dispatching ETOPS 180 or higher, planning long range routes over the Atlantic, pacific, or Polar regions.
  • 3+ years of experience in operations and/or flight coordination, with preference for experience in Part 121 flight following.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Windows-based platforms and airline management software.
  • Exceptional ability to multi-task while working under pressure and strong ability to prioritize assignments in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, weather, and technical dispatch skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Must be flexible to work all shifts, Including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Utilize all available resources to make decisions that will maintain the highest level of safety
  • Coordinate with the PIC to determine fuel requirements, alternate airports, route to be flown, aircraft performance, MEL restrictions, weather and NOTAMS.
  • Execute a flight release setting forth the conditions under which the flight will be conducted.
  • Flight Following - monitor each flight with respect to: 1) Departure of the flight from the origin and arrival at destination, including intermediate stops and any diversions from the intended flight and/or route to be flown. 2) Maintenance and mechanical delays encountered at places of origin, destination, and intermediate stops. 3) Any known conditions that may adversely affect the safety of flight.
  • Ensure the required weather reports, available weather forecasts, or a combination thereof, from an approved weather reporting source as defined in Company OpSpecs are provided to the Flight Crew for the origin, route of flight, destination, and alternates. This data must be included with the flight release.
  • Ensure data is prepared and provided to the Flight Crew prior to departure. This includes, but is not limited to, Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs), airport analysis, etc.
  • Ensure the Flight Crew is briefed on the status of the aircraft with regards to mechanical discrepancies/irregularities, MEL/CDL deferrals, and any other items that may affect the intended flight prior to the release of the flight and during all flight operations.
  • Ensure the flight plan is filed taking all meteorological conditions, MEL/CDL discrepancies, and any aircraft limitations/restrictions into consideration.
  • Monitor Air Traffic Control (ATC) delays.
  • Report and record all irregularities encountered that involve mechanical, operational, safety, or emergency situations that could affect the intended flight.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Controller to ensure all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance is accomplished.
  • Communicate with Maintenance Controller when irregular operations prevent an aircraft from reaching the intended destination.
  • Initiate emergency procedures and notification when necessary.
  • Create operational efficiency during times of irregularities caused by weather, Crewmembers, maintenance, or situations beyond the control of the Company.
  • Suspend operations when unsafe conditions exist until such unsafe conditions no longer exist.
  • Discharge their duties to meet applicable legal requirements and to maintain safe operations.
  • Ensure end of shift turnovers are completed, and all required records are filed as required.
  • Coordinate with Ground Operations representatives.
  • Communicate times of severe operational impact, or other irregular operations to the DO or designated representative.
  • Coordinate with crew scheduling team regarding crew scheduling functions, to ensure all Pilots and Flight Attendants are scheduled legally and in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Ensure duty, flight time and rest requirements are complied with in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the DO and Director of OCC.
