About The Position

Flight Followers are delegated the authority for operational control by the Director of Operations and exercise operational control jointly with the PIC. Flight Followers prepare and distribute domestic and international Flight Releases, runway analysis, and weather data in accordance with existing policies and procedures, in support of scheduled, chartered, and ad-hoc flights. The highest priority of each Flight Follower is the safety of the flight.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be prepared to work all shifts; including but not limited to nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • High school graduate; some college and/or technical school desirable.
  • FAA Dispatcher’s certificate is required.
  • Experience in a FAR 121/135 flight operations center is required.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of world geography.
  • Must possess exceptional attention to detail and abstract problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to read, write and understand spoken and written English.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to convert between different units of measure.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

  • International experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the status of all planned flights (scheduled, chartered, or ad hoc), and flights in progress from the point of origin to the final destination (flight following);
  • Releases flights in accordance with all Kalitta Air applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements;
  • Collects and disseminates weather and aeronautical information to the PIC by preparing Flight Operations paperwork;
  • Ensures all ground handling, deicing, fuel, landing/departure slots, and landing/overfly permits are in order before releasing a flight;
  • Identifies, anticipates, and takes corrective action to minimize actual/potential delays due to weather, scheduling, operations, crew legality, and maintenance issues;
  • Advises appropriate personnel of potential/actual delays and conditions affecting the safety of the flight;
  • Coordinates with Maintenance Control to ensure aircraft status will permit the intended operation to be conducted safely and in accordance with applicable ATC, government laws, and International policies;
  • Ensures that MEL/CDL limitations or restrictions are evaluated and complied with;
  • Determines airport suitability/risk assessment;
  • Maintains a shift log for recording key data for all assigned flights and missions;
  • Complies with all applicable federal/state health and safety regulations; and
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
