About The Position

Our specialized centers include Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, Baptist Heart Hospital, Baptist Neurological Institute, and Wolfson Children's Hospital. This role involves maintaining a safe and calm environment for patients through continuous observation of their safety and reporting any changes to the nurse. The Flex Sitter provides line-of-sight or one-to-one close observation, direct patient care including engagement, immediate intervention for safety, de-escalation of agitation or aggressive behavior, patient escort, and restraint securement as needed. They also contribute to patient reorientation and diversional care by providing companionship, engaging in conversation, and reading to patients. The Flex Sitter will remain with their assigned patient for the entire shift and accompany them for tests and procedures off the unit. A Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) is required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities
- Provides continuous observation of patient safety and reports any changes to the nurse.
- Maintains line of sight or one-to-one close observation level of patient monitoring.
- Provides direct patient care including patient engagement.
- Provides immediate intervention to ensure patient safety.
- De-escalates patient agitation or aggressive behavior.
- Escorts patients and performs take-downs if necessary.
- Secures patient restraints as needed.
- Provides companionship to patients, engaging in conversation and/or reading.
- Stays with the assigned patient for the duration of their shift.
- Accompanies patients off the unit for tests and procedures.
