About The Position

This role involves maintaining a safe and calm environment for patients through continuous observation, reporting any changes to the nurse, and providing one-to-one monitoring. Responsibilities include direct patient care, patient engagement, immediate intervention for safety, de-escalation of agitation or aggressive behavior, patient escort, and restraint securement if necessary. The sitter will also participate in patient reorientation and diversional care by providing companionship, such as engaging in conversation or reading to the patient. They will remain with their assigned patient for the entire shift and accompany them off the unit for tests and procedures. A Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) is required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, calm environment for patients through continuous observation.
  • Report any changes in patient condition to the nurse.
  • Provide line of sight or one-to-one close observation level of patient monitoring.
  • Provide direct patient care, including patient engagement.
  • Provide immediate intervention to ensure patient safety.
  • De-escalate patient agitation or aggressive behavior.
  • Escort patients or perform take-downs as needed.
  • Secure patient restraints as needed.
  • Provide companionship to patients, such as engaging in conversation or reading.
  • Stay with the assigned patient for the duration of the shift.
  • Accompany patients off the unit for tests and procedures.
