About The Position

Nuro is seeking a Fleet Technician, a specialized technical role responsible for the diagnostic health, software integration, and hardware integrity of Nuro’s autonomous vehicle fleet. This position requires a hybrid mastery of Linux-based systems, hardware-software abstraction layers, and electromechanical engineering to ensure peak operational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced command of Linux/Unix environments, including the ability to navigate file systems, analyze logs, and write/modify code to interface with hardware.
  • Deep understanding of the dependencies between hardware sensors (Lidar, Radar, Cameras) and software processing units.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot non-linear problems using vehicle diagnostic equipment and software debuggers.
  • Ability to perform precision electromechanical work, including lifting 50 lbs and working in various physical orientations to access vehicle internals.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Python or C++ for creating diagnostic scripts.
  • High Voltage (HV) safety certification or EPA 609 refrigerant certification.
  • Direct experience with Electric Vehicle (EV) powertrains or Autonomous Vehicle (AV) sensor calibration.
  • Familiarity with 5S, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Independently analyze and root-cause complex failures involving the interaction between autonomous software stacks and vehicle hardware.
  • Design, develop, and implement hardware and software scripts (Python/Bash) to automate fleet health monitoring and optimize vehicle uptime.
  • Execute and validate critical software retrofits, firmware updates, and hardware modifications, ensuring high-fidelity integration with ADAS systems.
  • Author and standardize Technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and documentation for cross-functional use by engineering and operations teams.
  • Lead specialized fleet-related workstreams, serving as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) when collaborating with Software and Hardware Engineering departments.
  • Lead technical response during critical system failures, utilizing data logs and diagnostic tools to stabilize the autonomous platform.
