About The Position

HB McClure Company is a 100% employee-owned commercial mechanical contractor seeking an experienced Fleet Service Manager to join their team. This role involves working alongside the current Fleet Manager during a transition period, offering a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge of fleet operations while contributing as a hands-on leader. The position combines technical expertise, fleet management, compliance oversight, and leadership. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with both shop-level work and strategic fleet operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of automotive maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Current PA State Inspection License
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Med Card).
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and repair practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet management software.

Nice To Haves

  • Fleet management experience.
  • Pennsylvania Emissions Inspection License or ability to obtain within 120 days of hire
  • Technical school, automotive technology program, or related certification.
  • ASE certifications.
  • Experience with fleet management platforms such as Fleetio.
  • Experience managing maintenance records, inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support daily fleet shop operations, including supervision of the Fleet Service Technician.
  • Perform and oversee preventative maintenance, repairs, diagnostics, and emergency roadside service for fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair gas and diesel vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, electrical systems, exhaust systems, and related components.
  • Perform Pennsylvania state vehicle inspections and ensure fleet compliance requirements are met.
  • Conduct final operational testing and quality checks to verify repairs.
  • Manage fleet maintenance records, repair documentation, and vehicle-related data within fleet management systems.
  • Oversee inventory and purchasing of fleet parts, materials, and supplies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Monitor fleet performance metrics, including downtime, fuel usage, maintenance costs, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with long-term fleet planning, including repair-versus-replacement decisions and vehicle lifecycle management.
  • Train and support drivers and fleet personnel on vehicle care, safe operation, and reporting procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant fleet shop environment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve fleet processes, efficiency, and overall performance.
