About The Position

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is responsible for the policies, legislation, regulations, programs, and services that enable Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors to flourish and contribute to Alberta’s economic recovery and growth. The ministry’s role is diverse, ranging from food safety and industry growth and diversification to increasing investment and supporting growth in rural Alberta. As the Fleet and Parking Manager, you will lead a dedicated team of four staff and play a key role in shaping efficient, innovative, and compliant fleet and parking operations. From developing policies and performance measures to overseeing vehicle acquisition, safety programs, and emerging emergencies, you will help drive smart operational decisions that support evolving business needs. Requirements

  • University degree (Business, Economics, Arts, Political Science, Marketing, Finance, Business Development, or a related field).
  • Plus, four (4) years progressively responsible experience (Business management, Trade, Fleet, Parking or related).
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Extensive experience in fleet operations, asset management, and parking administration within a complex, multi-ministry environment.
  • Experience managing large and diverse vehicle fleets, overseeing vehicle life-cycle processes (acquisition, maintenance, tracking, and disposal), and coordinating parking allocation and assignments across multiple sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and the use of system-generated information to support decision-making, performance monitoring, and operational planning.
  • Knowledge of procurement and contract management processes, understanding of government policies and regulations related to fleet operations, and experience working within National Safety Code requirements and broader compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge or experience using OPRA for parking administration, or similar.
  • Strong technical competencies in the use and management of fleet and parking systems, including Holman and FOCUS for fleet management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate, engage, and support Fleet and Parking team members to deliver exceptional client service.
  • Provide supervision, coaching and professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills.
  • Coordinate business area activities and align them with government policies and priorities.
  • Oversee fleet operations, including policy compliance and process improvements.
  • Lead the Annual Fleet Replacement Plan and acquisition process.
  • Develop and implement fleet performance metrics (KPI’s) to ensure cost effective and efficient management.
  • Assess and integrate emerging vehicle technologies where feasible and economically viable.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle inventories and performance records to meet client needs.
  • Ensure vehicles are properly licensed, equipped and maintained in compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate with staff and clients to address fleet and parking requirements.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety across fleet operations.
  • Develop audit processes to monitor compliance with the National Safety Code and other regulations.
  • Implement KPI’s to measure and improve fleet safety performance.
