About The Position

The Waste Management (WM) Fleet Operational Management Trainee (FOMT) program is a 12-month course designed to develop individuals for fleet manager roles. Fleet Managers oversee primary and secondary equipment and focus on market-based profitability through effective management of fleet and maintenance activities, cost control, management development, training, and safety. Trainees complete a curriculum consisting primarily of on-the-job field training, with some classroom training. The training location will likely differ from the permanent placement and may require relocation. The role requires 10–14 months of travel during training, with travel costs covered by WM. Candidates who successfully complete the program must be willing to relocate within an assigned geographic area. The program strongly prefers candidates able to relocate throughout the United States and Canada for training or permanent placement. The position combines office work with field assignments, which are its core foundation. Fieldwork may involve exposure to weather and other non-office conditions, climbing onto and down from collection and support equipment, and riding for many consecutive hours. The trainee may periodically work non-traditional schedules, including 12-hour days, some weekends, and early start times. The targeted start date is March 2027.
