About The Position

Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, the Fleet Mechanic performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of company automobiles, trucks, trailers, refrigeration units, and related fleet equipment. The position is responsible for maintaining company vehicles and equipment in safe and reliable operating condition. Work primarily involves preventive maintenance and general mechanical troubleshooting, but may also include component replacement, electrical repairs, brake repairs, refrigeration equipment, lift gates, tires, and collision-related repairs.

Requirements

Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, the Fleet Mechanic performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of company automobiles, trucks, trailers, refrigeration units, and related fleet equipment.
The position is responsible for maintaining company vehicles and equipment in safe and reliable operating condition.
Work primarily involves preventive maintenance and general mechanical troubleshooting, but may also include component replacement, electrical repairs, brake repairs, refrigeration equipment, lift gates, tires, and collision-related repairs.
Read and interpret service information, maintenance instructions, technical manuals, diagnostic information, and repair procedures.
Troubleshoot vehicle computer, electronic, electrical, and lighting systems.
Test, repair, rebuild, replace, or calibrate fuel system components as required.
Inspect, repair, and adjust torsion arms, landing gear, and related trailer components.
Inspect, repair, and overhaul vehicle brake systems and related components.
Inspect, repair, replace, and service damaged or worn tires as required.
Perform general mechanical repairs and component replacement necessary to maintain safe and reliable fleet operation.
Assist with collision-related vehicle repairs when required.
Wash, fuel, and prepare vehicles or equipment as requested.
Complete required vehicle write-ups, work orders, repair documentation, time records, and other fleet maintenance records accurately and timely.
Communicate professionally with Fleet leadership, drivers, employees, vendors, and other departments regarding vehicle repairs, maintenance status, and shop operations.
Assist with determining repair priorities based on vehicle condition, operational needs, safety, and fleet availability.
Assist with maintaining documentation required for applicable local, state, federal, and company fleet requirements as assigned.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work area.
Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, spills, mechanical hazards, or other safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor or Safety representative.
Handle automotive fluids, chemicals, batteries, oils, fuels, and other shop materials in accordance with applicable training, safety procedures, and company requirements.
Comply with applicable federal and state safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety procedures, including requirements for the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair assigned company vehicles and fleet equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections, repairs, adjustments, and modifications on automobiles, trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
Assist the Lead Fleet Mechanic and Fleet Manager with repair projects and fleet maintenance priorities.
Read and interpret service information, maintenance instructions, technical manuals, diagnostic information, and repair procedures.
Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain refrigeration units, vehicle bodies, and lift gates.
