About The Position

PLP Company (PLP Co.) is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to join our operations team in their Bethel Park, PA office. The candidate will be responsible for operations/project tasks and should possess the ability to take on significant responsibility-and leadership role-over time. Experience in road construction, dispatch, and knowledge of PennDOT requirements is preferred. This is an opportunity to enter a growing industry with a well-established company who has worked in roadway safety throughout Pennsylvania for the last 60 years. We are seeking a skilled and reliable Fleet Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in repair and maintenance, with the ability to diagnose and fix a variety of vehicle & equipment issues. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a mechanic.
  • Strong ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical issues with vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a good driving record with no major violations within the last 5 years or be accepted by the company insurance policy provider to drive PLP company vehicles.
  • Must comply with PLP Company Substance Abuse Policy and DOT Drug Control Program, which includes pre-employment and random drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • Must have experience with diesel engines, gas engines and hydraulics.
  • Must have manual-hand-finger dexterity.
  • Must have eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Must be able to lift and/or transport +50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and occasional travel.
  • 10hr+ workdays / 40hr+ work weeks

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in road construction, dispatch, and knowledge of PennDOT requirements is preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred not required.
  • A CDL license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains construction equipment of various types and sizes from light-duty to heavy-duty (class 8) trucks and from light-duty to heavy duty operating equipment.
  • Provide roadside assistance for vehicles that have broken down, including repairs and towing coordination if necessary.
  • Perform preventative maintenance following OEM specifications as well as electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Remove and replace defective parts by dismantling devices using hand and power tools.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition and properly maintained.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper functioning when used.
  • Occasionally fabricate, weld and cut parts, using arc-welding/ wire feed and flame cutting equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform DOT inspections.
  • Perform related and other duties as requested.
