About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic II ensures trucks, trailers, and yard tractors are in working order and comply with federal standards. The role performs preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment, including tractors, trailers, liftgates, and company-owned equipment. The mechanic also conducts DOT inspections, supports drivers with vehicle issues, and helps maintain a safe, clean work environment.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of diesel maintenance repair experience.
• Experience working with air brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills.
• Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, FMCSA standards, and industry practices.
• Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions as needed.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work as a team player.

Nice To Haves

• Experience using trailer maintenance software.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and diagnose fleet systems and components, gaining proficiency with some assistance in diesel engines, power trains, electrical systems, HVAC, steering, electronics, engine accessories, brakes, suspension, tires, and after-treatment devices.
• Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance, and complete vehicle diagnosis.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment, including routine technical repairs and completion of repair orders.
• Perform maintenance repairs as needed to maximize the safety and reliability of fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Follow company policies and safety rules and help maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist drivers in addressing outstanding vehicle issues.
• Maintain and repair Class A trucks, trailers, and yard tractors.
• Safely operate gauges, forklifts, shunt trucks, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
• Perform DOT inspections and ensure compliance.
