About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic I ensures trucks, trailers, and yard tractors are in working order and comply with federal standards. The role diagnoses and repairs vehicle components, performs preventive maintenance and other required repairs, supports drivers with vehicle issues, and conducts Department of Transportation inspections and compliance work. The position also involves safely operating shop and vehicle equipment and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.

Requirements

• Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions as needed.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work as a team player.
• Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills.
• Experience working with air brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

Nice To Haves

• Prior welding and fabrication experience.
• Tire repair experience, including repair, mounting, and dismounting.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair truck and trailer components, including doors, floors, side panels, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment, including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
• Repair fleet vehicles and equipment as needed to maximize safety and reliability, including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and company-owned equipment.
• Follow company policies and safety rules and help maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist drivers with outstanding vehicle issues.
• Maintain and repair Class 8 trucks, trailers, and yard tractors.
• Safely operate gauges, forklifts, shunt trucks, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
• Perform DOT inspections and ensure compliance.
