Fleet Mechanic I-Janesville
About The Position
The Fleet Mechanic I ensures trucks, trailers, and yard tractors are in working order and compliant with federal standards. The role maintains and repairs class 8 trucks, trailers, yard tractors, lift-gates, and other company-owned equipment to support safety and reliability. The mechanic performs preventive maintenance, repairs vehicle issues, completes repair orders, and assists drivers with outstanding vehicle concerns. The position also performs DOT inspections and compliance work while following company policies and safety rules and helping maintain a clean, safe work environment.
Requirements
- Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions as needed.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as a team player.
- Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills.
- Work experience with air brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Nice To Haves
- Prior welding and fabrication experience.
- Tire repair experience, including repair, mounting, and dismounting.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair truck and trailer components, including doors, floors, side panels, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment, including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
- Perform maintenance repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment to maximize safety and reliability.
- Maintain and repair class 8 trucks, trailers, and yard tractors.
- Assist drivers with outstanding vehicle issues.
- Perform DOT inspections and ensure compliance.
- Safely operate gauges, forklifts, a shunt truck, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
- Follow company policies and safety rules and help maintain a clean, safe work environment.
