This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles and equipment. All positions in this class are expected to exhibit outstanding customer skills and interact in a positive manner with the various departments within the City and the public. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and normally filled internally by advancement from Apprentice level or, when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience. An incumbent in this position may be designated as follows: Fleet Mechanic Apprentice: Under general supervision, this is the entry-level class in the Fleet Mechanic series. Incumbents generally have limited related work experience. Incumbents receive some instruction or assistance in the performance of the duties assigned to this class. Fleet Mechanic I: Under limited supervision, this is the intermediate-level class in the Fleet Mechanic series. Incumbents assigned to this class are expected to perform the full range of duties assigned to this class with limited supervision and direction. Fleet Mechanic II: Under direction, this is the senior-level class in Fleet Mechanic series. Incumbents assigned to this class are expected to perform the full range of duties assigned to this class and are expected to work with independence and initiative; work may be reviewed during performance and upon completion.
