Fleet Mechanic I/II

El Dorado County Transit Authority•Diamond Springs, CA
•$29 - $39•Onsite

About The Position

El Dorado Transit is hiring for Fleet Mechanic I and Fleet Mechanic II classifications. Under immediate supervision at Level I or general supervision at Level II, the Fleet Mechanic performs skilled maintenance and repairs on transit vehicles and other equipment. Work includes road-testing buses, identifying and correcting unsafe conditions, diagnosing and overhauling vehicles, and installing or repairing accessories such as heaters, mirrors, wheelchair lifts, and safety devices. Fleet Mechanic I is the entry-level classification. Employees initially work under close supervision while learning and performing routine maintenance and repairs. Assignments grow more varied and complex as experience is gained, and supervision lessens as employees demonstrate independent proficiency. Fleet Mechanic II is the fully qualified journey-level classification, performing the full range of maintenance and repair duties independently and using judgment and initiative. Progression from Level I to Level II depends on satisfactory performance, meeting the higher classification's minimum qualifications, management confirmation that the employee is performing the full range of duties, and management approval. The positions receive immediate supervision at Level I or general supervision at Level II from management or supervisory staff, and do not directly supervise employees. Work is primarily performed in a vehicle workshop and occasionally in the field. The role involves maintaining accurate work and maintenance records, reporting work performed, and working safely with vehicles, tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.
