About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe and modern fleet for Henry County Fire Rescue. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing fleet maintenance schedules, and establishing safety standards, policies, and procedures to minimize risk of injury or catastrophic failure of vehicle.

Requirements

  • Requires an associate’s degree in Business Administration, Automotive Engineering, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, Emergency Management, or related field, and seven (7) years of experience in public sector operations, logistics, automotive/diesel mechanics, administrative management, fleet services, accreditation/compliance, emergency services support, or a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have five (5) years of consecutive service to Henry County Fire Rescue or a comparable organization.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of handling complex enforcement or compliance issues.
  • Knowledge of leading program implementation or operation improvements.
  • Knowledge of hydrants, water mains, buildings, sprinklers and standpipe connections, and other information needed to respond to alarms effectively.
  • Knowledge and awareness of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of new equipment, procedures, trends, and advances in the profession.
  • Knowledge of fire suppression and prevention principles and practices, emergency medical services, basic supervision techniques, specialized communication equipment, and safe work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of streets, addresses, hydrant locations, and special considerations of response districts.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of fire prevention and suppression, including operation of fire hydrants, use of ladders, use of water and various chemicals to suppress fire, and salvage and rescue operations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in driving, emergency and otherwise.
  • Skill in administering first aid and CPR.
  • Skill in dealing with emergencies and victims of trauma.
  • Skill in performing general mechanical maintenance.
  • Skill and dexterity in operating fire vehicles, apparatus, and life rescue equipment including ladders, hoses, pumps, and other assigned equipment.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE or EVT equivalent certifications a plus.
  • EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P preferred.
  • Firefighter I and II, FAO Pump Operator, Fire Instructor I and II, Fire Officer I and II, Incident Safety Officer, and NFA Leadership and Supervision I, II, and III preferred for sworn structural firefighting personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a liaison between Fire Rescue and Fleet department personnel to assess needs, monitor progress, and implement corrective actions for any fleet related deficiencies.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and policies; addresses violations as needed; consults with management and/or officials to review national standards, accreditation, and quality assurance activities; resolves problems and provides recommendations.
  • May assist with the spec and build process of new fire apparatus and ambulances.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes fire apparatus activities; ensures standards are met and deadlines are enforced.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive fleet maintenance plan for the department to ensure a safe and effective environment for personnel; implements a fire apparatus and ambulance replacement program.
  • Creates a comprehensive vehicle safety and maintenance program that supports the well-being of the personnel and vehicles servicing the community.
  • Performs regular risk assessments and safety audits of fire stations, equipment, and emergency response procedures; assists in identifying potential hazards and allows for the development of strategies to mitigate these risks; conducts audits to ensure compliance with safety precautions and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Designs and delivers training programs on topics such as fleet safety, emergency procedures, and proper vehicle maintenance to ensure all personnel are well-informed and prepared.
  • Assists in the incident investigation process to determine the causes of accidents and develop strategies to prevent recurrence; responds to emergency incidents and performs duties of incident safety officer per command; promotes a safe fire fleet by implementing programs for driver training.
  • Refines emergency response plans and ensures that all safety equipment and emergency gear is well maintained.
  • Stays updated on industry trends, safety technologies, and best practices to enhance safety and provide procurement for the needs of the community.
  • Works to ensure efficient and effective process of vehicles and equipment repairs, rapid turnaround of vehicles and equipment, and manages quality assurance and quality control.
  • Participates in physical fitness training, training drills, and other continuing education activities; attends meetings, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
  • Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, MyGemesis, CAD, e-mail, Operative IQ, or other software; operates general office equipment to complete essential functions.
  • Operates or utilizes various firefighting equipment, medical equipment and supplies, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete assignments; operates and maintains communications equipment and personal protective equipment in hazardous situations.
  • Communicates with subordinates, elected officials, management, co-workers, police personnel, local and states public safety officers, hospital personnel including doctors and nurses, fire and accident victims and their families, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
