About The Position

Kommissary is a social enterprise on a mission to spread joy through food. We produce and deliver high volumes of meals spanning a diverse array of cuisines to every demographic in New York City. Kommissary is seeking an experienced On-Site Fleet Auto Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of our fleet of approximately 40 vehicles, including vans, cars, and light- to medium-duty trucks. This role is responsible for preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and fleet compliance, ensuring all vehicles remain safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations. Requirements

  • Proven mechanic experience with a strong background in automotive diagnostics and repairs across multiple vehicle systems.
  • 3+ years experience as an auto mechanic or fleet technician, preferably with commercial fleet vehicles.
  • Knowledge of diesel engine repair and automotive electrical systems is a plus.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other automotive maintenance tools.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues efficiently.
  • Experience working on transmissions, wheel alignments, suspension systems, tire service, shocks, and struts repairs.
  • Ability to work safely while following all safety protocols related to air brake systems and other hazardous components.
  • Ability to manage maintenance schedules, repair tracking, and parts inventory.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Work 40 hours/week, and overtime as required.
  • Lift up to 50lbs.
  • Work standing or walking for long periods of time.
  • Work bending and squatting.
  • Fast paced movement.
  • Work in all weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of diesel engine repair and automotive electrical systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, brake service, tire rotations, fluid replacements, and scheduled inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair issues involving engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspensions, steering systems, and brakes.
  • Repair or replace components such as belts, hoses, wheel bearings, air brakes, and other mechanical systems.
  • Perform tire service, wheel alignments, suspension inspections, and fluid system maintenance.
  • Maintain the operational readiness of 40 fleet vehicles used for daily delivery operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections and safety checks across the fleet.
  • Oversee vehicle registrations, insurance documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with coordinating vehicle distribution and readiness for drivers and delivery routes.
  • Manage parts inventory and maintenance supplies for fleet repairs.
  • Track repair costs and maintenance spending to help control fleet operating expenses.
  • Order parts and coordinate with vendors when specialized repairs or components are required.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to repair and maintain vehicles.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, bend, and work under vehicles for extended periods.
  • Must be flexible and can work in both the LIC and Bronx locations as needed.
