About The Position

The Fixed Route Operator is a full-time position responsible for operating a vehicle on a fixed route, ensuring customer safety and satisfaction. This role requires excellent customer service skills, adherence to schedules, and the ability to handle unexpected situations. On-island residence is required, with discounted dormitory lodging available.

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • 5 years verifiable valid Driver's license
  • Valid Massachusetts CDL Class C or Higher with Airbrakes and Passenger Endorsements
  • Clean driving record – DMV printout required for the last 10 years
  • Stable work history
  • Ability to obtain a CDL Class B with Passenger and Airbrakes Endorsement
  • Ability to work in an ever changing environment
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Keolis does not sponsor visas for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome and properly greeted when boarding the vehicle.
  • Effectively communicate with passengers, especially during service disruptions.
  • Provide passengers with assistance as needed.
  • Accommodate passengers with information such as schedules and guidance.
  • Practice defensive driving, anticipating potential hazards and reacting appropriately to avoid accidents.
  • Ensure safe on-road operations while maintaining on-time performance.
  • Be familiar with assigned routing and detours, including during inclement weather.
  • Be aware of ADA Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Properly operate all wheelchair lifts, including manual operation for each bus model.
  • Report immediately to dispatch any vehicular accident or passenger incident and follow reporting procedures.
  • Assist and help passengers with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and properly securing wheelchairs.
  • Collect the prescribed fare media and notify dispatch of any type of fare evasion or fraud.
  • Perform pre and post trip inspections and enter all defects on to the DVIR forms.
  • Follow exact deadhead routing and their assigned revenue service routes.
  • Depart the start of each route exactly on-time and never operate ahead of schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
